Autumn Leaf Pile Fun With a Pouncing Cat

Coloring guide
With its front paws pushed deep into a heap of maple and oak leaves, this wide-eyed tabby kitten crouches low and keeps its tail curled high. The mouth is open in a happy grin, and stripes cover the face and body, with bands down the tail. More leaves swirl through the air. On the right a tree trunk with branches stands tall, and a small pumpkin sits in the grass behind the pile, along with a few grass tufts and rounded bushes. Small kids will like the big leaf shapes, while older ones can tackle the stripes. Ginger or orange fits the kitten, red, gold and brown suit the leaves, and a deep orange makes a good pumpkin. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background areas: color the bushes and grass in grass green and lime green, and the tree canopy in forest green with a few spring green leaves.
- 2Fill the tree trunk and branches in chocolate brown, then add the pumpkin in light orange with its stem left in a darker tone.
- 3Color the kitten's head, body, legs and tail in light orange, leaving the two eye whites bright white, and paint the inside of the right ear soft pink.
- 4Add stripes on the tail, back and head in deep orange, then fill the leaf pile with golden yellow, bright red and burnt orange leaves, mixing in a few dark gold ones.
- 5Color the falling leaves in orange, red and yellow, and finish the little white highlights in the eyes and paws. Optional: add a little darker shade under the leaves to make the pile look deeper.
