Crouching down in a wide-brimmed safari hat, a smiling boy studies a big tortoise through a magnifying glass, and the tortoise looks back with a friendly grin. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the turtle shell: fill the big middle scutes with olive green and the outer edge pieces with golden yellow, leaving small white shine spots.
- 2Color the turtle's head, legs and belly in pale olive, then add darker olive green spots on the legs and feet.
- 3Paint the boy's shirt golden yellow, his hat light tan with a chocolate brown band, and his shorts navy blue, keeping his skin peach.
- 4Fill the backpack with sky blue, add navy blue pockets and a royal blue flap, and finish the strap in dark brown.
- 5Color the magnifying glass lens pale blue, the rim charcoal gray, the boy's shoes dark brown, and the rocks light gray.
- 6Finish with the flowers in bright red and lavender purple, keep the flower stems and the turtle's eye shine white, and add a little darker shading if you like. Optional: add a soft shadow under the turtle with slate gray.
