A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.

• cherry red
• golden orange
• sky blue
• lemon yellow
• forest green
• leaf green
• light amber
• chocolate brown
• caramel brown

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.

1. 1Start with the plate rim and the rolling pin handles: color the thick plate ring and both ends of the rolling pin in cherry red, leaving the plate inside white.
2. 2Fill the rolling pin body and the gingerbread man with caramel brown and golden orange, respectively, and color the milk in the glass with sky blue, keeping the top surface line white.
3. 3Color the star cookie in lemon yellow and its outer edge in light amber, leaving the small icing dots and the eyes white.
4. 4Fill the Christmas tree with leaf green on top and forest green below, add the chocolate brown trunk, and color the bell in cherry red with leaf green on top and a lemon yellow clapper at the bottom.
5. 5Leave the white icing stripes on the bell and the bow-tie area white, then color the gingerbread bow in cherry red.
6. 6Optional: add a little darker shade along the bottom edges of the cookies for depth, and leave the background white.
