A grinning baby dinosaur pokes out of a cracked, spotted eggshell with both little paws on the jagged broken edge. Its big round eyes sparkle, its mouth is open in a happy smile, and a row of rounded spikes and oval spots decorates its head. Another spotted piece of shell sits behind it, and the egg rests in a woven nest of twigs with a few leaves sticking out at the sides. The large ovals on the egg and the chunky outlines are simple for small hands, which makes this a good choice for preschoolers and early elementary kids. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the cracked egg body with sky blue, staying inside the outlines and leaving the shell cracks as thin lines.
- 2Color the nest branches with chocolate brown, then fill the leaves around the nest with forest green, olive green, and sea green.
- 3Color the hatchling's head, arms, front feet, and tail with lime green, keeping the eye whites and shine dots white.
- 4Fill the spikes along the head and back with orange, then add bright yellow spots on the head and tail.
- 5Add golden yellow spots to the large and small egg shapes, and color the open mouth tongue with coral pink.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of the same colors on one side of the egg and the leaves to give them a bit of depth.
