Family of Wolves Resting by a Mountain Lake
Coloring guide
Two big wolves sit side by side, smiling, with their heads tilted close together. Between them at the bottom, a small wolf pup sits with its mouth open as if it is panting or laughing. Fluffy fur covers their chests and cheeks, giving kids lots of little tufts to color. Tall evergreen trees stand on both sides, a lake stretches off to the right, and mountains rise under a round sun and puffy clouds. Flowers and rocks dot the grassy ground in front. Soft grays and warm browns suit the wolves, and a bright yellow sun and blue water will help the family stand out. This free printable PDF is handy for classroom time or a rainy day. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big wolves: color the fur of the large wolf and the middle wolf in warm ivory, leaving the pup's chest and the eye whites bright white.
- 2Fill the wolves' shaded areas with medium gray on the large wolf's back, legs and tail, and use warm taupe on the middle wolf's back, side and tail.
- 3Color the pup's head and shoulders in light gray, then add coral pink inside the large wolf's ears.
- 4Paint the sky and distant haze in pale blue and sky blue, leaving the clouds white, then use slate blue for the mountains and keep their snowy peaks white.
- 5Add the forest with pine green and deep green on the trees, leaf green on the bushes and grass, and sky blue on the lake water.
- 6Finish the ground with golden tan and light gray rocks, then color the flowers. Optional: add a little extra shading with a darker tone along the fur edges to make the wolves look fuller.
