Fishing Elf on a Rock with a Leaping Fish
Coloring guide
Sitting on a rock at the edge of a pond, a smiling little elf in a floppy pom-pom hat holds a long fishing rod in both hands. The line goes straight down to the water, where a happy fish jumps up with a splash and ripples spreading out around it. A small frog sits on a lily pad in the lower left and watches, while an empty lily pad floats on the right. Tall cattails and spiky grass fill the left side, with more grass next to the rock. The elf has a zigzag collar, a tunic, and curly-toed boots with little bobbles. Big, clean shapes make this free printable a good choice for preschoolers and early elementary kids. A bright orange fish against blue water will make the splash really stand out. This fits right in with our Elf coloring pages — see also Zombie and Pirate.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big areas: fill the elf's pointed hat, tunic, arms and leggings with forest green, leaving the background and the gaps between the reeds white.
- 2Color the grassy bank, the grass tufts, the frog and the lily pads with light green, then fill the large rock with stone gray.
- 3Use bright red for the hat band, the elf's collar and the pointed boots, and use chestnut brown for the hair and the cattails.
- 4Color the elf's face, hands and ears with light peach, leaving the eye whites, the highlights and the fishing rod white. Give the fish an orange body and head.
- 5Finish with golden yellow on the boot bells and the fish fin. Optional: add a darker shade of each color along one side for depth.
