Hermit Crab by a Beach Tide Pool

A cheerful hermit crab pokes out of a big spiral shell while sitting on a rocky ledge. It has big round eyes, a happy smile, long antennae and two chunky claws held out in front. Beneath the rock is a rippled tide pool with a few smooth stones sticking out of the water. One starfish with dotted arms rests on the left, another lies in the bottom right corner, and a small snail with a swirly shell creeps along the sand at the bottom left. Tall seaweed leaves rise on both sides, and more rocks sit across the water in the background. The stripes and spiral on the shell give kids fun sections to fill in. Warm orange and peach suit the shell, and soft purple claws help the crab stand out. Print it at home for an easy afternoon activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the sea in the background and the whole tide pool with sky blue, leaving the thin white ripple lines unpainted.
- 2Color the sandy rock and ground with sand beige, leaving the little pebble dots white.
- 3Paint the shell with chocolate brown and sand beige bands, and add a light tan curl at the very center.
- 4Color the hermit crab's body, legs and claws in bright orange, with coral red on the arm joints and belly, and keep the eye whites white.
- 5Fill the grass with leaf green and light green, color the rocks gray, and paint the starfish bright orange, the snail shell lavender purple and its body soft peach.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker shade of sand beige or chocolate brown along one side of the shell and rocks for a little depth.
