Little Bird and Squirrel Sharing Acorns

On a thick tree branch, a smiling squirrel with a big fluffy tail holds an acorn in both paws. Right beside it, a small round bird holds an acorn of its own. A little pile of acorns rests on the branch between the two, and the bird's wing and tail feathers are drawn with simple lines that are easy to color. A wooden birdhouse hangs from a leafy branch above them, and big outlined leaves fill the corners around the trunk. Large shapes and clear lines make this free printable a nice choice for preschoolers and early elementary kids building crayon control. Try warm reddish-browns for the squirrel's fur and tail, golden tan caps and bodies on the acorns, and bright blue or yellow for the bird so the two friends stand apart. Looking for more? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the squirrel: fill its fluffy tail, body, and outer ears with orange, leaving the cream belly and chest for later.
- 2Color the bluebird's body, wings, and tail sky blue, then fill the squirrel's belly and chest with cream.
- 3Paint the tree branch and trunk with warm brown, and the birdhouse sides with golden yellow, keeping the birdhouse hole dark brown.
- 4Color the leaves with grass green, lime green, and yellow green, and fill the acorns with light amber, keeping their caps white.
- 5Add pink inner ears, the squirrel's hand and nose in orange and warm brown, the bird's beak in cream, and the birdhouse roof in red, leaving eye whites and the squirrel's teeth white.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker orange on the squirrel's tail and a touch of caramel on the branch for depth.
