A smiling young peacock faces forward with big sparkly eyes, an open beak and a crown of flowers and leaves on its head, topped by three little round-tipped plumes. The tail fans out behind it in a wide half circle, and every feather has a ring pattern with a small heart in the middle. Scalloped feathers cover the wing and chest, and the long legs end in wide, scaly feet. Small flowers float around the page and a few grass tufts sit near the feet. The big open shapes in the tail are simple for small hands, while the layered rings give detail-lovers more to do. Pink heart centers with each ring in a different blue or green would look sweet. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big body and head in medium blue, leaving the eye whites and the little white stem at the top of the crown empty.
- 2Fill the long fan of tail feathers with leaf green, working from the outside edges toward the center.
- 3Color the rounded eye rings on the tail in golden yellow, then fill the inner eye shapes with sky blue and the heart centers with deep blue.
- 4Add the turquoise wing and the lower wing feathers, and color the beak in golden yellow.
- 5Paint the legs and feet in tangerine orange, and fill the flower crown with rose pink, hot pink, lavender purple and leaf green leaves.
- 6Optional: Finish with the small flowers in hot pink and lavender purple around the background, and add darker blue shading under the wings for depth.
