Rainy Day Cat Gazing Out a Cozy Window

Coloring guide
With its back to us, a fluffy striped cat sits on a wide window sill and watches the rain. Drops slide past the glass, and outside there are rooftops with chimneys, a small attic window, leafy bushes and a big tree under cloudy skies. On the sill you'll find a potted plant with heart-shaped leaves in a pot decorated with little hearts, plus a steaming mug with a heart and tulip pattern. Flower-patterned curtains frame the window, and a plaid blanket, a flowered cushion and a stack of books fill the corners. Kids who love detail will like it, since the fur, roof tiles and leaves offer lots of small spaces. Soft grays and blues suit the rainy sky, and warm orange works for the cat's stripes. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the window sky and the rain-streaked panes: color the sky areas in pale blue, leaving the white cloud shapes and raindrops uncolored.
- 2Color the cat's body, head, and tail in orange, leaving the white paws and the white inner ear area light.
- 3Fill the tree foliage and bushes outside the window with lime green and grass green, adding forest green for the darker tree parts and leaving the tree trunk patches white.
- 4Color the curtains and quilt: use light yellow for the curtains and sky blue for the checked blanket, then add pale beige to the small window and the house window.
- 5Color the windowsill, shelf, and lower wood panels in warm brown, and the book spines in honey tan and golden yellow. Optional: add a little chestnut brown on the wood edges for shading.
- 6Finish the plant leaves in forest green and lime green, and add steam and mug details last, keeping the mug, pot, and hearts white.
