Sleepy Hedgehog Tucked Into a Pile of Fall Leaves

With closed eyes and a tiny smile, this sleepy little hedgehog is curled up in a big heap of fallen leaves, two small paws resting on the leaf in front. Round ears peek out, and the body is covered in lots of short spiky lines that are fun to color. Around it you'll find pointed maple leaves mixed with rounded oak leaves, each with clear veins. A few grass tufts poke up in the top corners, and three loose leaves lie along the bottom edge. It's a good pick for calm, cozy coloring at home or in the classroom, and all the leaf shapes give kids plenty of room to practice. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the hedgehog's face and paws with cream, leaving the closed eyes and nose as simple dark lines and shapes.
- 2Fill the spiky back and body of the hedgehog with chestnut brown, working around the cream face.
- 3Color the leaves along the left and right edges with golden yellow and marigold yellow to set the autumn mood.
- 4Fill the large top maple leaf with tomato red, then use bright orange and tangerine on the big leaves in the middle and lower right.
- 5Add toffee brown and dark olive to the lower left leaves, and goldenrod or light tan to the small leaves at the bottom.
- 6Optional: Add light shading with a slightly darker shade of each leaf along one side to make the pile look more layered.
