Pond Wading Dinosaur With a Little Turtle

A big, friendly long-necked dinosaur stands in shallow pond water, neck stretched high, with a wide smile. Small splashes and ripples circle its feet and its tail curls up at the back. Curved stripes mark the back and shoulders, a nice spot for kids to try a pattern. In the lower right, a little turtle with a patterned shell sits on a rock and watches. Lily pads and two water lilies float up front, while bushy shrubs, a leafy tree, tall grass and rolling hills line the far bank. The large shapes are good for young children, and the shell, lily pads and ripples give older kids smaller areas to fill in. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Leave the dinosaur's body, long neck, head, and the tree trunks white, then fill the distant hills with lavender purple.
- 2Color the trees, bushes, grass, and lily pads in leaf green, and the turtle's legs and head in the same green.
- 3Paint the spikes along the dinosaur's back and tail in orange, and fill the belly and the side of the neck with golden yellow.
- 4Color the pond water and the splashes in sky blue, and the legs standing in the water in ocean blue.
- 5Fill the turtle's shell with chestnut brown, the rock with light gray, the lotus flowers with rose pink, and the toes with pale yellow and beige.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on the water and the shell edges to make the picture look more three-dimensional.
