Tilting forward with big sparkly eyes and a wide open smile, this cheerful watering can sprinkles teardrop-shaped water drops onto three leafy seedlings. The sprinkler head is covered in tiny holes, and the drops fall in loose rows toward the plants. Each seedling grows from a bumpy patch of soil dotted with small pebbles and curved lines. On a leaf of the seedling at the right, a tiny smiling ladybug sits with curly antennae and a spotted shell. Large leaves and bold outlines keep it easy for little hands, so it's a nice choice for preschoolers and early elementary kids. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the watering can body, spout, and the sprinkler rim with sky blue, leaving the handle opening and the eye whites white.
- 2Color the top rim band, the bottom band, and the sprinkler head in golden yellow, then fill the inside of the top opening with deep blue.
- 3Paint all three seedlings, including their leaves and stems, in leaf green.
- 4Color the ladybug's wings bright red and its head charcoal, and fill the smile with coral pink.
- 5Add the raindrops in sky blue and the soil pebbles in earth brown, leaving the background white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of deep blue along the can's shaded side for a bit of depth.
