On this page a cheerful whale smiles at the water's surface while three happy dolphins leap through the air above it. The whale has a large round eye, a ridged belly, a curved flipper and a tail raised on the left, with a small fountain spraying from the top of its head. The dolphins grin with open mouths and are surrounded by splash drops. Bubbles of different sizes float everywhere, wavy lines across the bottom show the sea, and a sun with straight rays shines in the top right corner. Little hands can fill the big shapes easily, and older kids can take on the bubbles and splashes. Deep blue suits the whale, light blue and gray the dolphins, and bright yellow the sun. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big whale body: color it royal blue, leaving the eye's white part uncolored so it stays bright.
- 2Color the three dolphin bodies dusty gray, then fill their tails and fins with steel blue.
- 3Fill the waves and the bottom area with bright blue and turquoise, alternating the bands to show the sea.
- 4Color the sun golden yellow, and the whale's smile coral pink with a plum inside the open mouth.
- 5Add pale blue to the dolphin bellies and the whale's lower belly, then color the water spout, splashes and bubbles with bright blue and light sky blue.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of royal blue along the whale's belly and steel blue under the dolphins for a little depth.
