Young Paleontologist Brushing a Dinosaur Fossil

Coloring guide
A smiling kid in a wide-brimmed hat and utility vest kneels in the dirt, softly sweeping a paintbrush across a half-buried dinosaur skeleton. You can see a long toothy skull, a curved row of ribs and clawed foot bones sticking out of the rocky ground. A bucket and a small hand shovel sit next to the digger, and stones and pebbles are scattered across the front. Further back are palm-like plants, rocky cliffs, a tall pine, faraway mountains, a calm lake and puffy clouds. Kids who love fossils, digging and dinosaur facts will enjoy this free printable, and all those small stones give little hands lots to work on. Sandy tans and warm browns work well for the soil and bones. A bright green vest will help the young explorer stand out. Love this Dinosaurs coloring page? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the skin tones: color the face, neck, arms and hands with peach skin, leaving the eye whites and smile teeth white.
- 2Fill the hat, shirt and pants next: color the hat crown and brim sand tan, the t-shirt bright red, the vest olive green, and the pants sand tan.
- 3Color the sky clouds pale blue, leaving the sky background white, then paint the mountains steel blue and the lake water sky blue.
- 4Add the greenery: use lime green for the bushes and plants, forest green for the pine trees, and light green for the grass patches.
- 5Paint the bucket and shovel next: the bucket bright blue, the shovel blade light gray, and the rest of the ground and cliffs in caramel brown and dark brown.
- 6Finish the dinosaur skeleton with cream for the bones and skull, then add light gray to the rocks. Optional: add a little darker shading under the rocks and the vest for depth.
