Caterpillar Riding an Orange Fruit
Coloring guide
Perched on top of a big dotted orange is a cheerful caterpillar with two bobbly antennae and large sparkly eyes, its little feet gripping the fruit near the short stem. Its round body is made of several chunky segments, and the wide open smile says it loves the view. On the left, a single veined leaf curls out from the stem, and at the bottom right there's a halved orange slice with neat wedge sections. Thick, clean outlines and large open spaces suit young children and anyone still building pencil control. A bright green caterpillar with orange and yellow wedges in the cut fruit looks great, and kids can stipple the peel dots in a darker orange. This free printable also fits a fruit or bug lesson. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big orange fruit body and the side peel of the orange slice using tangerine orange, leaving the small dots as tiny white specks.
- 2Fill the segments of the orange slice with tangerine orange, and color its pale rim and center with pale yellow.
- 3Color the caterpillar head, neck and body segments with lime green, then use bright green for the front body segment.
- 4Color the left leaf and its stem with forest green and bright green, and color the caterpillar tail segment forest green.
- 5Add golden yellow to the antenna tips, the little legs and feet, and leave the eye whites white.
- 6Finish with coral pink for the smiling mouth, and add a touch of darker shading on the fruit as an optional tip.
