Friendly Oak Tree with Acorns and Fallen Leaves

There's a happy face on the thick trunk of this oak, with two round eyes and a small open smile. The wide, cloud-like crown has scalloped edges and big lobed oak leaves all over it. Four acorns hang from the branches, two on each side. Down at the roots you'll find a few grass tufts, plus three fallen oak leaves and two acorns on the ground. Bold, clean lines and large open shapes work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids still building pencil control. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the tree trunk and the roots, filling them with warm brown and leaving thin white highlights along the bark lines.
- 2Fill the big canopy lobes on the top left, bottom left, bottom right and inner areas with golden yellow, keeping the outline clean.
- 3Color the orange oak leaves on the left, top middle and bottom ground, plus the leaf on the lower left, using orange.
- 4Add coral red to the right side canopy, the upper right leaves, the top middle leaf and the fallen leaves on the ground.
- 5Color the hanging acorns and the ground acorns amber, then fill the acorn caps with near black and leave small white dots for texture.
- 6Finish the friendly face: leave the eye whites white, color the pupils near black and the smile soft pink. Optional: add slightly darker shading on the trunk and under the canopy for depth.
