Autumn Maple Tree with Rake and Rain Boots

Wide branches and a thick, textured trunk make up this big maple, and the crown is packed with scalloped clusters that each hold a veined maple leaf. More leaves drift down beside the trunk, with small curved lines showing them falling. At the base is a heaped pile of fallen leaves, and a long-handled rake leans against it on the right. A pair of rain boots, each with a little maple leaf on it, sits on the left. Rounded bushes and a gentle hill are in the background, with small grass tufts up front. It's a nice free printable for an autumn lesson or a quiet afternoon. Red, orange and golden yellow leaves, a brown trunk and bright blue or green boots will make the boots pop against the leaf pile. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the tree trunk and branches in chestnut brown, leaving the thin light streaks along the bark as white highlights.
- 2Fill the big canopy clumps with tangerine orange, keeping the top cloud-like edges of the crown mostly white for now.
- 3Color the maple leaves in the crown with fire red and golden yellow, mixing a few amber yellow leaves in between.
- 4Paint the ground leaf pile with fire red, pumpkin orange, amber yellow and golden yellow, then add the falling leaves around the tree.
- 5Color the rain boots bright blue and the rake head light gray, and fill the grass and background bushes with leaf green and lime green.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading under the leaf pile and along one side of the trunk to make the tree look more solid.
