High up in a big leafy tree sits a wooden treehouse with a slanted plank roof, a round window with cross panes, and a small door opening onto a railed porch. A long ladder leans against the platform, and a rope swing with a wooden seat hangs from a thick branch on the right. The trunk has bark lines and a knothole, and puffy clusters of leaves frame everything. Along the bottom you'll spot a few grass tufts and bushes. Wide planks and large leaf shapes are easy for small hands, and the bark and railings give older kids finer work. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big leafy crowns and bushes with bright green, and add dark green in the shadowed areas and a few lime green accents on the leaves.
- 2Fill the sloped roof and its edges with rust orange, leaving the thin white border lines clean.
- 3Color the house walls, planks and deck with honey yellow, then use tan orange for the railings, ladder and door.
- 4Color the round window glass sky blue and fill the window frame, tree branches and swing seat with brown.
- 5Leave the tree trunk, the swing ropes and the background white, as in the example.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading under the roof and along the bottom of the walls to make the treehouse pop.
